God's Presence

Today we are talking about God as our presence. We are told He is our help, that He’s always with us, and that we cannot ever flee from Him. His presence is always near and around us.

When I think about this, I envision His presence around my son as he serves in a war zone. Each day, I pray God hems him all around, in front and behind, and I see His hand upon my son as he serves.

Jesus told His disciples that He would always be with them, to the end of time. This is reassuring, and it brings me peace. Each day, we can see His presence around our children as they work in various parts of the world — some stateside and some in active war zones.

For many of us, the miles seem very far away. We really don’t understand the particulars of where they are. But do we need to? Instead, we need to see His presence round about each of them.

He goes before them

When the Israelites were about to enter Canaan, Moses told Joshua:

Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it. It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you.

What a wonderful reminder of how God walks next to and with His people. Not only that — He goes before our sons and daughters, never leaving them.

I hope you can picture God right next to your child, whether they are in a war zone or serving elsewhere.
