God's Protection

God doesn’t promise safety and a perfect turn of things. He knows our inner thoughts and the heaviness we carry for our sons and daughters serving in wartime.

What He does tell us is that He is our refuge and strength; we turn to Him in trouble, and this turning to Him results in not being afraid. Therefore we shouldn’t be afraid. He who never slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4) is watching our coming and going — He’s watching our military sons’ and daughters’ comings and goings.

When we pray for protection over our children in the military, it should be grounded in God’s Word, with the ultimate focus on surrendering their safety and care to God.

The strong tower

I like to envision a strong tower, and I’m running into it to seek security and protection. But this is no ordinary tower — this is the name of God, who is a strong tower.

Envision a tall, fortified tower, much like the towers of ancient times that provided protection from enemies. God is an indomitable refuge. Now think of this tower, with all of its protection, being around your son or daughter. Pray that God encircles them with His covering of security.

We approach this tower with humility and trust. It is the righteous who seek this safety, because we know our sovereign Lord has the entire universe under His control. Lay your child’s name in this tower and pray for their protection, in the name of Jesus.

Ultimately, nothing that happens each day is under our control. But we do know we can approach the throne of God and seek His protection over our children.

A prayer I say daily

Finally, I want to share a prayer I say each day: that God’s angels encamp around my sons. I envision a host of angels encircling and protecting the military base. I ask for God’s continued protection over all the people on that base, and that all weapons would be repelled.
