Praying for Your Military Son or Daughter

Written for parents of sons and daughters in the military.

Begin day 1

Hello, I’m glad you’re here today to start reading this devotional. I hope it encourages and strengthens you to follow He who knows everything about you — your fears, worries, questions, and concerns as your son or daughter serves in the military. It can be a volatile time, and most likely, if you’re reading this, perhaps your child is serving somewhere far from home. Each day can feel long as you pray, wonder, and submit all worries and cares to He who knows you and your child and all you’re thinking.

This devotional will cover five days. Day one will focus on not being anxious, followed by days two through five, during which we will look at Bible passages that point to His Protection, Peace, Provision, and Presence. You will be led to pray for and over your son or daughter, give all to He who knows their situation, and, overall, to know the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

I am writing this devotional to you as a mom of two Army service members. One is a commissioned officer who has deployed, and the other is a cadet who will commission. I’m also a Navy veteran. To say that I don’t wake up at night and continually pray is an understatement. But this devotional is borne out of this exact worry and stress that awaken me at night, because each time I pray, I know God has everything under control. Ultimately, I control nothing. I know you know this. So, instead of worrying, I hope to share some insights God has given me as I navigate some confusing, heavy, and unknown days while I pray and await news from my son.
